Breakfast in Bethlehem
Thanks to everyone who came out to join our Breakfast in Bethlehem. A special thanks to the Evening Guild for providing a wonderful meal to everyone. It was a great morning to spend some time together as a family and enjoy some crafts, games and activities. As is the challenge every year, it is important to take time and remember what we celebrate in this
season. As we walked through the familiar characters in the Christmas story we are hopefully reminded of what we can learn from each. Mary; willing to serve God in whatever role she could, Joseph; trusting in God’s plan, Shepherds & Angels; excited to share the news of the Savior’s birth, Wisemen; following God’s guidance wherever he leads.
Pop-Up Nativity Service
We had a great time with our Pop-Up nativity Service; singing the classic Christmas hymns and involving kids and adults in a fun retelling of the timeless Christmas story. As one with young children, I know this is such a fun time of year for them, but don’t forget the joy and hope we too experience. And so I want to share with you a poem that was part of our nativity that reminds us why we celebrate and the joy we should hold not just on Christmas, but through out the year.
‘So what is the point of angels and shepherds And camels and stars?’ you say. ‘Is it just a nice story to tell to the children To celebrate Christmas Day?’ It’s not just a story. It’s not just for kids. It’s the hinge on which history swings! That Bethlehem baby grew into a man Who challenged all powers and kings. He taught us that love is better than hate, That serving beats being ‘in charge’.
He showed us the value of each human life: The little as well as the large. And then, on a cross, he died for that dream, Died to take all our wrongs away. And walked, three days later, right out of his tomb To turn death’s dark night to day. And that is the good news the angels proclaimed: The heart of all Jesus would do. A new life for now. A new life forever. That’s his Christmas present to you.
