    4K teacher assistant

I grew up in the small village of Vesper, WI. After high school, I attended MSTC for a year and then UW-SP for four years as a political science major with aspirations of becoming a lawyer to defend women and children. But God had other plans. After the birth of my second child I stayed home and never finished my final year of college. In 2008, God called me back to school and I graduated with a BA in Theology from Concordia University Wisconsin in 2011. During that time, I worked at the local Christian radio station, 88.5 The Family, as an on-air host. Most recently, I served at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church as the Youth and Family Ministry Assistant for 3 years. I had the privilege to sub in the preschool and 4K classes at St. Luke’s and loved it! I am excited to work with Miss Dian in the 4K classroom and to share the love of Jesus with His little ones here at Immanuel. I am married to Mark and the mother of six children. Four still here on earth - Rachelle (Austin), Rylan, Whitley, and Wyler; and two that are home with Jesus – Lukas and Baby L. I have one granddaughter, Aurora Rose, and will welcome my second

    grandchild in January of 2016.

I have a Technical Diploma in Early Childhood Education and I have worked with children from 6 weeks to 12 years of age for over 8 years. What do you miss from your childhood?

I miss just being a kid and having fun without being worried about timing or anything else! I try to bring that "fun" into my classroom where each child that comes into my Kindergarten can be a kid, have fun and work hard! Let's not miss out being a kid while we can!

I was born September 24th and enjoyed my childhood days in Des Plaines, Illinois where I attended Immanuel Lutheran and Maine West High School. During those years I was involved in volleyball, badminton, and played the clarinet in concert and marching band. After high school I attended Valparaiso University and Concordia University in Chicago where I received a BA in Elementary Education. My first teaching call brought me here to teach first grade and since then I have taught second, third, and a bit of upper grades. I met and married my husband, Mark, and we were blessed with three sons, Keith, Kevin, and Steven.

If you came into a significant amount of money, what is the first thing you would do?

From a realistic point of view I guess it would be to help our children pay off their college student loans (again...where we are at in life. Kids going back to college, buying books, thinking about advanced schooling....) . I also would like to see the new church built so a chunk would go towards that. In a humorous tone....let Mark decide; ask him, he's the financial person in our house.

A bear of any kind.  I used to collect teddy bears.

What are two of your favorite sounds?

Rain and children's voices/laughing....especially loved ones when you don't hear them for a while.

What is your favorite thing about being "saved to serve" at Immanuel Lutheran Church and School?

Being “saved to serve” means that every day I come into the classroom at Immanuel, I have the opportunity to share God’s love with my students and empower them to do the same. Jesus didn’t come to this Earth to be served, but to save us so that we too, can serve. “It is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35),” is certainly an important message to remember. In a society that is all about “me,” it is our job as Christians to turn that focus to “we.” What are WE doing to help each other, obey God’s word and show His love, and be fishers of men?

I have been married 37 years and have two children. We were also foster parents for 12 years and helped raise over 50 children from 6 months to 18 years old. My grandson attends Immanuel and is in the 3rd grade.

I taught in a Christian school for 10 years in Iowa, teaching junior and senior high math, literature, choir, band, drama, and working with the sports program. I also worked as an adjunct instructor in the Math and Science department of the local community college. We moved here in 2002 and I became the administrator of Community Christian Academy until it closed in 2008.

I now work at McMillan Library in both the customer service and technical service areas. I attend Faith Reformed Church and am in charge of the Children's Church program there.

Who/What is your favorite storybook character?

I don't really have a favorite, but my favorite books growing up were Nancy Drew books. I loved trying to figure out who did it before they revealed it.

What is your favorite thing about being "saved to serve" at Immanuel Lutheran Church and school?

I truly enjoy creating a pleasing and enjoyable experience for the students when they visit the library. I love it when they find a book that they find really enjoyable and I can share in their enthusiasm :)
